Oneida

Located in Madison County, east of Canastota, New York with a 2010 census population of 11,390. It was named after the Oneida Tribe that had settled in the large territory around the Oneida Lake during the colonial period. The city is an example of a pre-World War II city concept, with pedestrian scale designs, showing compact, bicycle-friendly roads and pavements. Establishments are within walking and biking distance, thus gaining steady popularity within the telecommuting crowd.

Since the 20th century, bike-culture has influenced the increased bicycle infrastructure in the area. Revatilizing light rail pathways have opened the city’s southern and northern neighbors for multi-use for cyclists and recreation.

Oneida benefits from having several post secondary academies within commuting distance including Colgate University, Hamilton College, the State University of New York Institute of Technology, Syracuse University, Le Moyne College, Mohawk Valley Community College, Cazenovia College, the State University of New York at Morrisville, and Utica College.
